Pink Ribbed Hat

My niece picked out some Debbie Bliss alpaca/silk when we went to the yarn store together, and requested a hat. I combined the pink with some Caron Simply Soft dark brown, and turned out this:

It's just a simple 2x2 rib knit on size 8 dpns, but I rather like how it came out!

Apple Hat

I made my nephew this Apple Hat! I couldn't resist...it's so adorable.

I followed the pattern exactly, using a size 6 needle and Reynold's Kids Bright Red for the hat and Bright Green for the leaves, and a bit of Caron Simply Soft Dark Brown for the stem.

And here he is in it!!!

Wavy Gravy

I completed a scarf and hat set for a good friend of mine. I have completed the scarf, which is Wavy Gravy from Stitch n' Bitch Nation.

Here's the halfway point:

I used Laines Du Nord Maxi in White and Neon Green. The pattern in the book was a bit skinny for my tastes, so I altered the waves a bit to make the scarf wider.

Here is the hat:

And me wearing it...hopefully she'll send me a pic of her in it and I'll edit that in:

Neck Tube

I made the Cherry Garcia Neck Tube from the Hello Yarn website.

Here it is laid out...it's hard to see the cables here, I think the Hello Yarn picture will show you the cables a bit better:

And here I am wearing it:

I followed their pattern exactly, and I used Paton's Shetland Chunky, just one skein. It wasn't a difficult project, it only took about 5-6 hours. I love cables.

I used the pattern in the Knit Wit book, but I tweaked it a little bit. I think it still needs a bit of work, but I will post what I did here.

Reversal Scarf

I made this for a good friend of mine with Baby Clouds yarn. I used size 10.5 needles, and started with 8 thick blue stripes with thin yellow ones, switching to 8 thick yellow stripes and thin blue ones in the middle, reversing back to 8 more thick blue ones at the end. When the giftee sends me a picture of her in it, I shall replace this doofy one of me with one of her:

Yellow Cables

I did my first cabling project last week. It's made out of 100% merino wool. The pattern is in Stitch N' Bitch Nation, it's the Simple Cable Hat, but I added a few extra rows of cables to make it fit over my ears:

I don't think orange is my color, but here I am modeling it anyway:

I enjoy working with cables. I think I am going to make the same hat in a different color with ribbing a bit longer so I can fold it up.

Red and Green Elf Scarf

I used Caron Simply Soft worsted weight Dark Moss and Autumn, 2 skeins each. 16" circular needle, size 8, CO 60 stitches, work 10 rows of each color, alternating until you have 42 rows. Sew up each end.

iPod Technocozy

I made the iPod Technocozy from Stitch N' Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook, the pattern is in there. Great book.

I used size 6 needles with Lily Sugar N' Cream worsted weight: Hot Orange, Sage Green, and Warm Brown.

I'm not too crazy about the pattern. I think with some modifications, it could be really good. There's a headphone port the pattern puts in the top:

I am going to make another one, take out that headphone port, and I think it will come out a bit better.

Welcome to Knits by Kyahbean

I decided it would be neat to start a new blog about my latest hobby. One day, I was wandering in Borders and I spotted Stitch N' Bitch. I sat down on the floor and opened it, and when I realized I had been reading it for 20 minutes straight and still wanted more, I took it to the register. My cousin Myrrh taught me how to knit the very next day. (Saturday, June 23, 2007) I was immediately hooked. I started buying up yarn and needles and haven't put them down since. I want to document the projects that I undertake as best as I can, but I cannot guarantee I won't get lazy about it. In fact, I can guarantee that I will. ;)

The very first project I undertook was a scarf, in a simple garter stitch:

I picked up the yarn at the Northampton LYS (Web's) and used size 10 needles, CO 40 stitches....and just knit until I ran out of yarn. It's a bit wider than I anticipated, but what can you hope for from your very first knit?

Then I learned to purl, and did a swatch out of SnB:

Then I found some cotton yarn and knit up a dish towel:

I used Sugar n Cream 100% cotton, worsted weight, one 2.5oz skein. I no longer have the link to the pattern, but if you were really that interested I am sure I could dig it up.

Welcome to Knits by Kyahbean...thanks for reading!
